This year I was more about doing research for my novel set in the 1920s, so I didn’t have as much time for fiction. But here is what I did manage to squeeze in:
Sinopticon- various authors, edited by Xueting Christine Ni
Rebecca – Daphne du Maurier
Dark Tales – Shirley Jackson
The City We Became – N.K. Jemisen
Being Seen – Elsa Sjunneson
Be Scared of Everything – Peter Counter
So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed – Jon Ronson
Bitcoin Widow – Jennifer Robertson, Stephen Kimber
The Subtweet – Vivek Shraya
Siren Queen – Nghi Vo
The Way Spring Arrives and Other Stories – various authors,
The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System vol.1 – Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX)
The Houseguest and Other Stories – Amparo Dávila
Convenience Store Woman – Sayaka Murata
The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System vol.2 – Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX)
The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System vol.3 – Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX)
People From My Neighborhood – Hiromi Kawakami
The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation – Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX)
Our Wives Under the Sea – Julia Armfield
The Inugami Curse – Seishi Yokomizu
Strangers on a Train – Patricia Highsmith
Small Game – Blair Braverson
Babel – R.F. Kuang
The Woman in the Library – Sulari Gentill
If I had to pick one favorite, it would probably be The Inugami Curse—I am now determined to read everything by Seishi Yokomizu that’s out in English. But overall it was a pretty fun year book-wise, giving me lots of inspiration for what I want to read in 2023 (I’m hoping to read a book a week again—there are so many books I didn’t get to read this year! Need to catch up!)
